Educational Outreach
Gentle Giants reaches hundreds of thousands of people annually to educate them on the horror of horse slaughter through public expositions and presentations, clinics, speaking engagements, tours, social media platforms, web-based information, email, direct mail, and telephone.
In 2019, Gentle Giants reached 1,953,905 individual Americans to make them aware of the fate of unwanted horses in the United States. 59,381 people became members of Gentle Giants, returning 118,762 signed petitions to the Speaker of the House to stop the export of horses for slaughter. Gentle Giants is also active in the Maryland Horse Council, the Maryland Horse Industry Board, and Maryland Association of Rescues and Equine Sanctuaries.
Gentle Giants is committed to conducting our public education with efficiency and transparency. We communicate with our supporters, donors, and prospective donors by email, postal mail, phone, and other means, both to request contributions to our cause and to educate the public about the unnecessary slaughter of US horses, our rescue services, volunteer opportunities, and educational opportunities and clinics in our local community and around the country. These efforts help advance our mission to protect draft and draft cross horses from slaughter, abuse, and neglect; and to end the export of all US horses for the purposes of slaughter for human consumption.
As a result, in accordance with the Financial Accounting Standards Board guidelines and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) guidance, Gentle Giants Draft Horse Rescue allocates a portion of our fundraising costs to program services. As a nonprofit organization that is exempt from federal taxation, we ensure our donors’ money is spent as efficiently and effectively as possible.
We are proud to be a 4-star rated charity with Charity Navigator and are working hard to earn our 5th star!
