Want to meet your favorite Gentle Giant? Come visit the farm!
We love when visitors come to tour the farm and meet the many gentle giants that reside here while waiting for their forever homes. Because the farm is quite expansive and our staff are attending to the many needs of our large herds, we require that you schedule an appointment ahead of time so we can better accommodate you.
What to Expect:
Our tours are 60 minutes and can accommodate up to 5 people in an open-air golf cart. Your tour will take you to our Main, Rehab, and Healing Barns, with stops along the way to meet and pet the horses. Our tour guides will give you a behind the scenes look into our daily operations, as well as share insights into the horrors of the slaughter industry, introducing you to horses that have been saved, and/or survived abusive or neglectful situations.
If you are interested in learning about sponsoring a horse or volunteering with us, please inform your tour guide and they will be happy to give you more information
If your group is larger than 5, we offer a walking tour that covers a small portion of the farm. This tour is primarily on gravel or asphalt paths, but may have dirt or grass areas that may be uneven, wet, or otherwise difficult to traverse.
4H groups or other clubs interested in visiting the farm should email us directly at tours@gentlegiants.org to make arrangements.
FAQs:
Can we bring our dog?
While we are all huge animal lovers, we want to keep your dog and our horses safe so make sure to put Animal Planet on the T.V., give your doggo a boop for us, and leave the fur-kids at home. Registered service animals are welcome.
Is it okay if we bring apples or carrots for the horses?
All of our horses are on specialized diets and can get very sick, very fast if given the wrong food. Some of our horses will choke if given even the softest treat and others are insulin resistant and can quickly colic with even a few blades of grass. Your tour guide will help to identify which horses may have which treats during your tour.
Can we take photos while we are on the tour?
Yes, you are more than welcome to snap some shots while on the tour. Our tour guide will also happily take a picture of you and your group if you’d like. Photos may not be used for commercial reasons without our permission.
What if the weather is bad?
As a working farm, we are out in all kinds of weather conditions providing care and feeding our horses every day. Tours will be canceled in the event of thunderstorms, lightning, heavy snow or rain, or extreme heat above 100 degrees.
Can we groom or ride the horses?
Gentle Giants does not provide riding or grooming experiences. If you would like to learn more about volunteering with us and getting hands-on experience caring for the horses, please check out our Volunteer Program Information.
What if we’re running late or need to cancel?
Please call us at 443-285-3835 as soon as possible if you are running late. Late arrivals beyond 15 minutes will need to reschedule their tour.
You can reschedule or cancel your reservation in the reservation system 48 hours before your tour.
